HMM's 'Hyundai Tenacity' |
Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) announced it deployed its super post panamax container ship into China - Europe trade in mid-March.
HMM deployed the 13,000 TEU vessel, the 'Hyundai Together', which has been chartered from Danaos Shipping. The Greek container shipping company chartered 5 vessels for 12 years with Hyundai Samho Industries in November, 2007, with the 'Hyundai Together' among them.
The 'Hyundai Together' is 355 m long, 48.2 m wide, and can cruise up to 24.7 knots. The HMM took the ship over on March 16.
John Coustas, CEO of Danaos Shipping visited Korea last November and said, "We were originally meant to deliver the ship to HMM in 2010, but the global economic depression caused delays."
HMM deployed the ship into G6's Asia-Europe trade Route 4, which is the first sailing for G6. The 'Hyundai Together' hit the water on March 9 in Ningbo and will sail into Rotterdam on April 16. The rotation is Ningbo - Shanghai - Yantian - Singapore - Suez Canal - Le Havre - South Hampton - Hamburg - Rotterdam - Suez Canal - Singapore - Yantian - Ningbo.
HMM also took a second ship, the 'Hyundai Tenacity', on March 8. The ship is also deployed into Route 4 with departure on March 24 from Ningbo for the first time.
A representative from HMM said, "We plan to take the chartered supersize ships over by the end of the first half of 2012, and will put the ships into Europe trades." < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
