DSME wins the world’s biggest LNG-FSRU order in the US
Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., (DSME) won an order for the world's biggest 173,400 m2 LNG-FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) in the US. DSME said it received a UD$280 million order to build a LNG-FSRU for Excelerate Energy.
The equipment will be constructed at the Okpo shipyard on Geoje Island, and will be delivered by the first half of 2014. Excelerate Energy has maintained a close relationship with DSME while the company considers another further project with DSME.
The world’s biggest capacity LNG-FSRU could control 22.5 million m3 per day and operate in any weather or circumstance while using seawater and its own cyclic water at the same time. In addition, the new LNG-FSRU is built on DSME's own LNG-RV design and can reach a sailing speed of 18 knots.
This higher value-added state-of-the-art equipment can provide LNGs without large scale investment in facilities, especially overland terminals.
Sang-Tae Nam, the president and CEO of DSME said, “We're pleased to announce this news and we have established confidence with Excelerate Energy through 8 previous contracts... We believe we can advance one step ahead of the market.” <김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr>
