Pusan cargoes up by meager 0.5%
Pusan Port recorded only a 0.5% increase in handled container cargoes because of decreases in transshipment cargoes. But the outlook was good in June this year, because a 1.2% increase was recorded, turning up from continuous slowing in April and May.
According to BPA (Busan Port Authority), the port handled 5,964,159 TEU of cargoes by the end of June this year. This is an increase of 0.5% as compared with 5,934,150 TEU from the same period of last year.
Among these cargoes, import and export cargoes handled were 3,349,406 TEU, up 1.82% from 3,288,480 TEU. But transshipment cargoes recorded 2,590,587 TEU, down 0.4% from 2,601,639 TEU last year. BPA analyzed that transshipment cargoes decreased because of calling increases at Chinese ports by shipping companies due to port development in China.
One insider from BPA said, "We will attract more cargoes through targeted marketing in the second half of this year."
