PIL’s Sustainability Report 2024

We’re pleased to present Pacific International Lines’ 2024 Sustainability Report: Charting Forward with Purpose. In 2024, we continued to build on the momentum from the previous year, increasing our efforts to imbue sustainability more deeply into our operations, culture, and decision-making.
 
We’ve made meaningful strides – from expanding our LNG dual-fuel fleet and improving our emissions tracking, to uplifting communities and strengthening our governance frameworks. In his message, Mr S.S. Teo, Executive Chairman, shared, “Sustainability remains central to our mission. In 2024, we introduced the first two LNG dual-fuel 14,000 TEU container vessels – Kota Eagle and Kota Emerald, which is part of our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility. This is a testament to our fleet renewal journey and ongoing investment in a lower-carbon future.” He further emphasised, “Our drive for sustainability is not limited to our ships. We have also adopted renewable energy sources where we can. In 2024, all electricity consumption in our headquarters and our offices in China, Chile, Ghana, Dubai, and India was matched with local renewable energy certificates. This helped us to reduce our GHG footprint in these countries.”
 
Looking ahead, our values of putting people first, pushing boundaries for innovative solutions and being future-focused positions us strongly for the future. Whether it’s through climate training, supplier engagement, or new partnerships for humanitarian aid, we’re working to build a more resilient and responsible organisation that listens, adapts, and grows.
 
In addition, we have invested in our people and initiated programmes aimed at improving the employee experience. Through PIL Academy, we introduced multiple courses in leadership, development, and technical areas and set an annual training target for employees.
 
In his interview in the report, Mr Lars Kastrup, CEO, highlighted, “Looking ahead to 2025, our ambitions are set even higher. We are working towards full alignment with Zero Trust security principles, a framework that requires continuous verification and strict access controls at every level of our digital infrastructure. In addition, we are actively pursuing ISO 27001 certification, which represents the international gold standard for information security management systems. These ongoing investments in governance and risk management reflect our steadfast commitment to building a robust, future-ready organisation that can adapt to new challenges while upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.”
 
This report also serves as our annual United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Communication on Progress, reinforcing our commitment to the Ten Principles and our role in shaping a more sustainable maritime industry.
