DHL eCommerce, a division of the world’s leading logistics company, DHL Group, recently relocated from its previous location in Raleigh, NC to a 162,836 square-foot distribution center located at 8475 Automation Drive in Concord, NC, 30-minutes from the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
With two shifts seven days per week and approximately 150 employees, the facility will process B2C e-commerce domestic inbound and outbound parcels and packages for online merchants throughout the U.S.
The distribution center houses state-of-the-art automation with a single-level loop sorter that includes scanners and cameras that can process 24,000 packages per hour, which is 30% more throughput than DHL’s previous location. The loop sorter has a 97% to over 99% accuracy rate.
The building’s green features include one EV charger, air exchange with automated controls for energy savings, ENERGY STAR® certified HVAC equipment and appliances, WaterSense certification on all plumbing fixtures for water conservation. Additionally, the facility has two meeting rooms, a training room, office space, and a multipurpose room for nursing mothers and other uses.
“Online merchant customers in the Southeast region can benefit from our new North Carolina location because we can handle more volume with our larger facility, just in time to usher in the peak holiday shipping season in a few months,” said Lee Spratt, CEO of DHL eCommerce, Americas.
The facility began serving as an annex for the company’s Atlanta distribution center during the holiday shopping season 2023, and as of August 18, 2024, is fully operational and prepared for the 2024 holiday shipping rush.
