The Alsace Rotterdam Express between Rotterdam and Strasbourg/Kehl increased its frequency to four round trips a week at the end of September. The container shuttle which was established in 2015 will now call at all deep sea terminals on Maasvlakte.
The train, an initiative from the C3C partnership between Danser Group, Haeger & Schmidt Logistics and Ultra-Brag, started four years ago with two round trips. A third was added in early 2018 and the frequency has now been increased to four a week.
This expansion results in a capacity of some 360 TEU per week in both directions. ‘We are not ruling out further expansion of rail services in the future,’ stated Michel Bot, Marketing & Sales Manager at Danser Group, on behalf of the C3C partners.
Bot: ‘We transport a lot of paper, wine and beer to Rotterdam from the French Alsace and German Baden-Wurttemberg. And a lot of automotive products too. From Rotterdam, just about everything is transported in the other direction. As well as transport solutions by barge, this enables us to offer shipping companies, freight forwarders and direct shippers choice and flexibility.
And reactions are positive. Cargo reaches its destination within 24 hours by train. Transport by water takes an extra one to two days. Clients can make their own choice under the “one-stop-shop” banner. Rail also, of course, offers a good alternative at low water.’
