[ Multi Million Dollar Box Investment For P&O Nedlloyd ]
P&O Nedlloyd has endorsed its commitment to provide quality aquipment
for its customers with the announcement of an order for 40,000TEU of n
ew containers.
The order, which will be completed during 1997 by manufacturers in the
Far East, will consist of 20 and 30ft standard containers and 40 and
45ft hi-cubes. New refrigerated equipment will include 20ft and 40ft h
i-cube units. The standard containers and some reefers will be built i
n China, with the remainder of the refrigerated boxes manufactured in
Korea.
Valued at 99 milliom dollars, the new equipment will replace older dxi
sting stocks with growth in volumes managed by P&O Nedlloyd’s continu
ing program of improving turnround times of containers.
Director International Container Management said the investment in new
boxes was part of P&O Nedlloyd’s strategy to provide the best equipm
ent available, “It was our intention to retain the highest specificat
ion boxes by applying the best practises of P&O Containers and Nedlloy
d Lines prior to the merger” he said “This will help us to sustain h
igher quality standards as we also take advantage of new technology av
ailable in box construction.”
The new equipment will make its first trip carrying exports from China
with the majority of the reefers being positioned in North and South
America and the Caribbean.
