KIFFA protests increasing rental fees at Inchon airport
KIFFA (Korea International Freight Forwarder Association) publically protested an increase in rental fees at Inchon airport.
KIFFA plans to widely publicize the issue and held a meeting over the rising rental fee last May 21.
Inchon International Airport has been planning levy higher taxes on companies in the airport since the last year but held off until the first quarter this year due to widespread resistance.
According to the airport plan, current rental fees are 34,000 won, or 10% of the land price. But if the raise becomes effective, the rental fee will skyrocket to 306,000 won, or 90% of the land price.
KIFFA said last April 29, "This is an incredible 900% hike, which is incomprehensible and completely unreasonable."
They also said, "Freight companies have been picking up the tab in terms of manpower and logistic costs caused by the move from Kimpo to Inchon. Given the situation, the airport's plan is a heavy burden on freight companies. It will raise logistic costs higher than ever and make companies less competitive, and consequently decrease Korea's international competitiveness."
